The African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula says the party has heard South Africans’ frustrations.

The Electoral Commission’s officially declared election results show that ANC achieved just over 40% of the votes, followed by the Democratic Alliance (DA) with almost 22%, the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK) secured over 14% and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) over 9%.

Voter turnout was 58.61%.

Over 16-million South Africans voted in the 2024 elections.

Mbalula has conceded that the frustrations have led to the ANC’s failure to get majority votes in last week’s general elections.

“While the ANC has won the most votes in this elections, the results show a significant decline in the ANC support from previous elections. While there are several factors contributed to the decline, the request sent a clear message to the ANC.”

“The results also show concerns about shortcomings and delivery. We enter govt. with a clear mandate to improve services in all communities throughout the country,” adds Mbalula.
