The Democratic Alliance (DA) leader John Steenhuisen says the DA’s plan to form a Multi Party Charter did not succeed. Their plan was to build a collective majority of a 50 plus one to form a new government.

However, the plan failed to get the majority at a national and provincial level. The party is now ready to form a coalition.

Steenhuisen was speaking on the SABC during a national address.

Democratic Alliance leader John Steenhuisen says the party’s Federal Executive has agreed to initiate coalitions with other parties. Steenhuisen says his party will not bury its head in the sand while the constitution is under attack.

He says that their task is to rescue South Africa from what he calls the “doomsday coalition”.

The DA says the party has appointed a team of senior members to embark on exploratory talks with other political parties regarding possible coalitions at a national and provincial level.
