Minister Nkadimeng To Handover Seven Boreholes To The Tsantsabane Local Municipality – Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs

The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Ms Thembi Nkadimeng will hand over seven boreholes, the constructed pump house building and associated works to the Tsantsabane Local Municipality and the Postmasburg community. 

The handover of the boreholes forms part of the Presidential District Development Model (DDM) Imbizo pre-activities, showcasing the DDM in Action through collaborative efforts between the Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA), Tsantsabane Local Municipality, and the Tirisano Construction Fund.

Expected to join the Minister is the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr Maureen Cathrine Basson and the Tsantsabane Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr Helena English.

The project aims to address the inadequate water supply in Postmasburg, affecting approximately 10,000 residents across 2,000 households. Prior to the project implementation, the community faced severe water shortages due to insufficient infrastructure and resources and thus the completed boreholes will ensure a sustainable supply of potable water to the residents of Postmasburg.

The construction of these boreholes has contributed to the creation of 16 job opportunities, with a deliberate focus on inclusivity by prioritizing employment for women (7), men (9), youth (14), and local businesses. Furthermore, the support extended to two local Small, Medium, and Micro-sized Enterprises (SMMEs) shows government’s commitment to ensuring economic empowerment and sustainability within the community.

With a total expenditure of R2,000,000, the investment in this project reflects a significant commitment to addressing critical water infrastructure needs and improving the quality of life for the residents. Added to this, recognizing the importance of ongoing maintenance and sustainability, training sessions were conducted to empower community members with the necessary skills for infrastructure upkeep and repairs. This will be done through the procured spare parts to ensure the long-term functionality and resilience of the water supply system.
